Alliance for California Traditional Arts
Statement, Policy and Plan for Cultural
and Racial Equity

Adopted by the board of directors, October 5, 2018

Statement

明升手机版 works at the intersection of the traditional arts and social justice. The organization understands that in order to promote and sustain the rich diversity of California’s living cultural traditions, a deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is required as a basis for truly transformative policy and action. 明升手机版 has embodied this commitment and since its inception worked from this premise, putting forth its values in every aspect of its work.

Policy

明升手机版 realizes its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access by way of:
  • Governing through a Board of Directors that is culturally and racially diverse and with strong intellectual capital;
  • Recruiting and employing individuals from racially underrepresented groups in order to mirror the diversity of the field we serve at all levels of management;
  • Designing accessible programs that foster belonging according to diverse linguistic, cultural, racial, economic, age, ability and gender groups;
  • Extending meaningful artistic opportunities to incarcerated cultural groups.
  • Generating and distributing funding for historically marginalized groups and supporting their cultural practices and traditions;
  • Advocating at the local, state and national level for critical cultural policy that takes into consideration the challenges and aspirations of diverse African, Latinx, Asian, and Native Americans.

Plan

To this end, 明升手机版 will continue to uphold its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access by way of:
  • Maintaining a committee that will annually track and review our actions and practices and make recommendations;
  • Continuing a dialogue about best practices with organizations and entities committed to our common values;
  • Implementing a program for board and staff in order to evaluate their own practices and identify areas of concern and improvement;
  • Providing training on structural racism in order to create a common understanding and framework to combat it within and outside the organization.
